Damped
oscillatory magnetic fields generated by the switching of high voltage
buss bars by isolators at power substations frequently degrade electrical
and electronic equipment. In accord with the IEC 1000-4-10 specification
requirements the Fischer Custom Communications, Inc. IEC 1000-4-10 system
develops the damped sinusoid current waveform in the uniform area of a
1 meter by 1 meter loop.
A
typical damped sinusoid waveform measured in a one meter loop is shown
below.
The
system can generate up to 100 amperes/meter peak in a one meter loop for
either the 100 kHz or 1 MHz waveform. The output waveform is monitored
with either a broadband magnetic field sensor. The generator output level,
and either a single pulse or the specified burst of pulses can be selected
manually from the front panel or from a PC using Fischer Custom Communications
control software. The software performs a self-calibration of the system
using the broadband magnetic field probe. The PC option includes a Tektronix
digital oscilloscope to capture the waveform.
IEC
1000-4-10 magnetic field test systems for loops greater than 1 meter are
available.
Software
for Computer Controlled IEC 1000-4-10 Immunity Testing
This
software, when combined with the FCC IEC 1000-4-10 Pulse Generator, the
FCC Model HFP-100 Broadband Magnetic Field Sensor and a Tektronix Model
TDS 210 or 220 Digital Oscilloscope, provides a closed-loop test system
as shown in the figure below. The Field Sensor directly measures the magnetic
field at the center of the loop antenna, and does not rely on an indirect
measurement of the current in the loop to infer the magnetic field magnitude.
The software presents the magnetic field waveform to the operator fully
corrected for the Field Sensor calibration factor and the oscilloscope
sensitivity.
