Introduction
Fischer Custom Communications, Inc. has developed a broadband tri-plate test
fixture for E-Field immunity testing of automotive electronics in accord with
SAE J1113-25 and Ford R-101-2. The TPL (Triplate Test Fixture) is a variant
of TEM cell that has specific advantages.
Without side walls the placement of the test equipment in the fixture and the routing of input/output cables is much easier.
The TPL does not have standing waves created by fields reflected from side walls. This feature allows the device to be used up to 1000 MHz.
The test fixture is specifically designed to transform from 50 ohm launch to 75 ohm impedance in the test fixture, thereby developing a higher volt/meter field per watt delivered to the test fixture.
In order to improve the performance of the standard TPL design, FCC has developed custom loads and unique modifications to the septum that improve the impedance match between the 50 ohm generator output and the desired 75 ohm impedance of the test volume in the fixture. As a result, the TPL manufactured by FCC requires less power to develop a more uniform field. Each unit is accompanied by TDR and VSWR test results.
