Clause 7.1.3 of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 states that there shall be a clear understanding of the decision rule used to determine an in-tolerance or out-of-tolerance condition. Fischer Custom Communications, Inc. offers two decision rules explained below.

An acceptance of a decision rule does not prohibit changing to a different decision rule.

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited calibration decision rule selection

  • Decision Rule 1: Measurement data is reported without a Pass or Fail (in/out of tolerance) determination. The measured value and the associated measurement uncertainty are provided. If “Pre” and/or “Post” condition is requested it will state “DATA ONLY”.
  • Decision Rule 2: An “in-tolerance” or “out-of-tolerance” condition is determined by Simple Acceptance. The acceptance limit is the same as the tolerance limit, as defined in ILACG8:09/2019 Guidelines on Decision Rules and Statements of Conformity. When a measurement result for the device is declared “in-tolerance”, the measured value(s) will fall within the acceptance limits and the uncertainty of the measured value will be reported.

Please state on your RFQ and purchase order which rule is preferred. If there is an inherent standard such as CISPR 16-1-2, IEC 61000-4-6, ANSI 6.4, Mil Std 461, CISPR 25, RTCA DO1-60 please refer to it on your RFQ.
